Lead Pastor, Grace Fellowship Church

Brad Bigney is an ordained minister with the Evangelical Free Church of America and a graduate of both Columbia Bible College and Columbia Biblical Seminary in South Carolina. He has a B.S. in Bible Teaching along with his Master of Divinity. He's a certified biblical counselor with ACBC (Association of Certified Biblical Counselors) and is involved in the counseling ministry of the church, as well as teaching in other conferences and training centers across the nation.

Brad is the author of Gospel Treason: Betraying the Gospel with Hidden Idols. He's been serving as the Lead Pastor of Grace Fellowship Church since January 1996. Brad hosts the Thrive Podcast where he shares how to apply God's Word to marriage and parenting, so surviving can turn into thriving. He and his wife, Vicki, have five wonderful children.

Campus Pastor & Elder, Grace Fellowship Church

Peter LaRuffa serves as a Pastor and Elder at Grace Fellowship Church. He preaches and teaches across GFC's multi-campus body and is deeply involved in biblical counseling and discipleship.

Peter grew up in New York City, where he came to faith in Christ at age 10. He began vocational ministry in 2001 as a youth pastor and worship leader at a church in Queens, where he also preached regularly at church plants throughout the city. In 2006, he moved to Northern Kentucky to serve as GFC's youth pastor and has served the church for over 20 years, including over 13 years as the Fort Thomas Campus Pastor. Recently, the church called him to become Lead Pastor of GFC effective January 1, 2028, when Brad Bigney retires. Peter and his wife, Sarah, have four children.

President, TEAM Focus Ministries

Rev. Randy Patten is the President of TEAM Focus Ministries, an organization that seeks to increase the discipleship effectiveness of evangelical churches and Christian leaders through public proclamation of Scripture and private coaching. He is also the Director of Training Emeritus of the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors (ACBC). Previously Randy served 18 years with ACBC, 16 as the Executive Director when it was called the National Association of Nouthetic Counselors (NANC).

Prior to his leadership roles with NANC/ACBC, he served 12 years as a local church pastor followed by 12 years as a pastor to pastors and consultant to churches. He has been involved in training biblical counselors for 43 years, including 24 years at Faith Biblical Counseling Ministries, Lafayette, Indiana. In 2021 Randy was named to the ACBC Academy, an honor bestowed for having made a significant contribution to the development of biblical counseling. He was a founding board member of the Biblical Counseling Coalition and has served as a trustee of Cedarville University for 38 years. He holds a B.A. from Cedarville University, an M.Div. from Grace Theological Seminary, and has done doctoral studies at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School.

Randy is a contributing author to Christ-Centered Biblical Counseling (Harvest House, 2013, 2021), Scripture and Counseling (Zondervan, 2014), and Biblical Counseling and the Church (Zondervan, 2015). Randy and his wife, Cindy, have been married for 54 years. They have two children and six grandchildren, all of whom are Christ-followers.

Senior Pastor, The Chapel (Eleanor, WV)

Rev. Chris Moles is an ordained minister with the Christian and Missionary Alliance and Senior Pastor of The Chapel (Eleanor, WV). Chris is a Certified Biblical Counselor, a Council Member of the Biblical Counseling Coalition, and a trained group facilitator in domestic violence intervention and prevention. He holds a B.A. in Bible from Cedarville College, an M.A. in Biblical Counseling from Faith Bible Seminary, and a D.R.E. from Cornerstone College and Seminary.

Chris is the author of The Heart of Domestic Abuse: Gospel Solutions for Men Who Use Control and Violence in the Home, a contributor on the West Virginia Coalition Against Domestic Violence statewide intervention curriculum, a contributor to Becoming a Church that Cares Well for the Abused, and the editor of Caring for Families Caught in Domestic Abuse: A Guide toward Protection, Refuge, and Hope.

Family Physician & Biblical Counselor

Charles D. Hodges Jr., M.D., is a family physician practicing medicine for Ascension St. Vincent Medical Group in Indianapolis, Indiana. Dr. Hodges is the Executive Director of Vision of Hope, a residential treatment facility for women that is a ministry of Faith Church in Lafayette, Indiana, and a counselor instructor in the Faith Biblical Counseling Ministry. He is a Fellow of the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors.

Dr. Hodges is a graduate of Indiana University with a B.A. in History, and the Indiana University School of Medicine. He is board-certified in family medicine and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians. Dr. Hodges also holds an MA in Counseling and an MA in Religion from Liberty University. He is a licensed marital family therapist in Indiana. He is the author of Good Mood Bad Mood: Help and Hope for Depression and Bipolar Disorder and a contributor to the book Caring for the Souls of Children.

Dr. Hodges and his wife Helen have four children and thirteen grandchildren. He enjoys running and golf, and spending time with family and friends at Disney World.

Doug Markesbery and his wife, Diane, have been members of Grace Fellowship Church since 2004 and have been married for 46 years. They have three children and seven grandchildren.

Doug holds a B.A. in Social Work from Asbury University and an M.Div. from Asbury Theological Seminary. He served as an ordained pastor in the United Methodist Church for 18 years and has been a certified biblical counselor with ACBC since 2010. From 2012–2021, Doug and Diane were commissioned as Grace Fellowship missionaries to Romania, where they established a Biblical Counseling School to train and equip local church leaders in gospel-centered soul care. They are now retired and serving with the Biblical Counseling department at GFC.

Dr. Curtis Solomon

Exec. Director, Sentinel Institute & Assoc. Professor, Boyce College

Dr. Curtis Solomon is the Executive Director of the Sentinel Institute and Associate Professor of Biblical Counseling at Boyce College. He holds a Master of Divinity in Christian Ministries and a PhD in Biblical Counseling from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Dr. Solomon's published books include Redeem Your Marriage: Hope for Husbands Who Have Hurt through Pornography and I Have PTSD: Reorienting After Trauma. He also writes for various other print and online outlets including The Gospel Coalition, Radical, The Focused Pastor, Harvest USA, New Growth Press, and the Biblical Counseling Coalition. He delights in his wife of 23 years, Jenny, and their two amazing boys.

Assoc. Pastor of Counseling & Family Ministry, University Baptist Church

Dr. John Henderson serves as the Associate Pastor of Counseling and Family Ministry at University Baptist Church in Fayetteville, AR. Growing up in a missionary family, John heard the proclamation of the gospel at a young age and, by God's grace, came to trust in Jesus Christ. While working on an undergraduate degree in psychology from Texas A&M University and graduate degrees from the University of North Texas in Counseling Psychology, the Lord brought John to renewed trust and growth.

Prior to his current position at UBC, he served as Associate Pastor at Del Ray Baptist Church in Virginia and counseling pastor at Denton Bible Church for 14 years. During those years he ministered to families, led yearly biblical counseling training for the congregation, and helped supervise counselors in a local counseling center. He also serves as an associate professor of counseling at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. John and his wife Ruth were married in 2000 and have been blessed with five children: Gabe, Faith, Judah, Ellie, and Nate.

Do I have to be a counselor to attend?

No need. We think this conference will be beneficial for all Christians.

Will there be childcare?

We do not provide childcare for this conference.

Is lunch provided?

We do not provide lunch. We will make you have plenty of time for your lunch break, and we’ll also provide a list of suggested restaurants nearby.

Does the Foundations Track count towards my ACBC Certification?

Yes, it does! The Foundations Track will satisfy the requirements for the Fundamentals Training portion of your ACBC Certification.

Can I attend both Advanced & Foundations?

Yes…and no. 🙂

The first weekend of Foundations happens at the same time as Advanced. If you decide to attend Advanced, you will miss the first weekend of the Foundations training live. However, you will gain access to the recordings of the teaching when they are available.

Can I attend both tracks of Advanced?
No. When you register, you’ll select either the Abuse track or the Trauma track. Some sessions will bring both tracks together. After the conference, when recordings are sent out, you’ll have access to both.
Do I have to attend or be a member Grace Fellowship Church to come?

No. This conference is open to all individuals in and outside of our church. 

Will the conference be live-streamed?

The conference will not be live-streamed.

There will be video recordings available at some point after the conference, but you must register for the conference in order to gain access.

What is ACBC?

ACBC is the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors (previously known as NANC). It is a training & certifying organization that seeks to equip Christians with tools to counsel others biblically. Grace Fellowship Church is a certified training center for ACBC.
