Prayer

A general, personal conversation with God involving worship, thanksgiving, or personal requests. All intercession is prayer, but not all prayer is intercession.

Intercession

From Latin intercedere — "to intervene, come between, be between." The act of intervening on behalf of another.

Our Cross-Cultural Workers Need Intercessors

An intercessor is someone who prays earnestly on behalf of others—individuals, nations, or situations—seeking God's intervention according to His will. They handle sensitive information with care and commit to holding the work in prayer over the long term.

These Prayer Groups exist for one purpose: seeking God's help to make His name known in a specific region.

What is Signal?

Person holding a phone
Signal
Free · Encrypted · Private
A free, encrypted
messaging app built
for privacy.

Signal is a secure messaging app used by journalists, aid workers, and organizations operating in sensitive environments. Messages are end-to-end encrypted — only the sender and recipient can read them.

GFC uses Signal for its prayer groups because the workers you'll be praying for operate in places where communication security is not optional.

You'll need to download Signal on your phone before joining a group. It's free and takes a few minutes to set up.

How Signal Works in This Group

View only
You can read and pray, but not reply.
This channel is view-only — you cannot reply or direct message the worker. React with an emoji to let the worker know you've read their message and prayed.
Disappearing messages
Messages disappear after you read them.
Disappearing messages vanish automatically after being viewed and cannot be recovered, copied, saved, or forwarded.
Limited details
Details are limited to protect the worker.
Sharing specific details about a worker's location, identity, or work can put them and their neighbors at significant risk.
Trust assumed
No agreement required, but trust is assumed.
No signed agreement is required — but confidentiality is assumed.

Frequently Asked Questions

How regularly should I expect updates? +
Workers will share requests and how God is answering prayer when they can. Please be patient — access and time are not always available.
How does this help the worker? +
Prayer teams share the weight of the work. Regular intercession keeps workers focused on their mission and grounded in a posture of prayer throughout the week. Knowing others are praying gives workers confidence and a reliance on God's strength rather than their own.
Can I choose more than one country or worker? +
Absolutely. And we hope you do.
What is expected from me? +
Maintain a strong personal prayer life, pray faithfully even when details are limited, and handle every request with strict confidentiality.
What do I do if I receive a direct message from someone in the group? +
Workers do not direct message group members. If you receive a direct message from a worker or another group member, please email [email protected] immediately.
Who can I tell about what I read in the messages? +
Workers are trusting you with their safety. Bring their needs to God and guard what they share.
How can I get to know the worker? +
Faithful service in this role can open the door to joining an Encouragement Team and building a deeper relationship with the worker.
Do I have to sign a confidentiality agreement? +
No signed agreement is required — but confidentiality is assumed. Joining a prayer team and receiving sensitive information carries an obligation of trust.
